Northern Ireland is one of the four constituent nations of the United Kingdom. It has a population of 1.8 million people - one of the youngest populations in Europe, 53 per cent is under the age of 40. The region is 13,600 sq km in size, accounting for six per cent of the total UK land area.

Belfast, the capital city, is 2nd largest city on the Island of Ireland and the 12th largest in the United Kingdom.

Northern Ireland is well served by air and sea routes. There are 4 main airports servicing the region - Belfast International, Belfast City, Dublin and City of Derry Airport. These Airports handle circa 40 million passengers per year. There are 160 ferry and freight sailings per week to Great Britain and Europe.

Northern Ireland is administered by a devolved government and 11 regional councils. A number of the councils are collaborating on city/growth deals, such as the Belfast Region City Deal.
